Introduction | Best Standard Zoom mounted on D7100 | Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM A Nikon lens performance | Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM A Nikon versus competition | Conclusion

Mounted on Nikon D7100

When measured against rival offerings from Tamron and Nikon, the Sigma is clearly the superior performer. Although the Tamron is more modestly priced than the Sigma or the Nikon, overall image quality of the two is far behind the Sigma and it’s particularly noticeable at full-aperture. Neither can match the Sigma’s high sharpness or uniformity throughout the zoom range. In other areas, such as distortion and chromatic aberration, the two rivals perform similarly, though obviously neither can compare with the Sigma’s measured transmission at full aperture. Given the slight premium for the Sigma it seems like a small price to pay for substantially better image quality
