"DxOMark to the rescue! This site is run as a manufacturer independent test site which allows for the comparison on hundreds of lenses side by side with a wide range of parameters."
"What’s even better than being able to compare raw stats, perfect for tech geeks (an endearing term, mind you)? Being able to compare lenses on different camera models. Let’s take a quick look through the site’s main features..."
"All in all, I found DxOMark.com a very useful site for data gathering and comparison for lenses..."
De facto DxOMark proved that Sony do deliver a better image quality than Canon sensors... Read the article.
But don't take my word for it, don't be swayed by pixel peepers on forums, instead check out the camera sensor tests at DxOMark to verify this. As you can see, they all share the exact same overall score, and show very similar performance... Read the article.
As part of the ongoing improvements to our testing regime we have invested in a new method of measuring a camera's dynamic range and image noise - DxO Analyzer... Read the article.
Hard to believe, but according to DxOMark, the Nikon D7000 takes the fight against the Canon 1D MkIV... Read the article.
DxO Mark has gotten around to benchmarking the sensor used in Panasonic’s new Lumix DMC-GF2, which despite having an ISO range of 6400 (1 stop more than the GF1), still features the same sensor powering its predecessor, the GF1... Read the article.
But my impression is that the benchmark is pretty useful: I analyzed the model and the data, but didn’t find any serious flaws. Furthermore, results like Figure 2 appear to be pretty consistent with traditional hands-on reviews: models that were stronger [weaker] than state-of-the-art when they were introduced (such as the Canon 40D [50D]) show up as expected in the DxOMark data. And, again, having a pretty solid metric by an independent party is better than endless discussions about what an ideal metric might look like... Read the article.
50mm prime lenses rock... but how do they compare to those inexpensive normal "kit" zoom lenses?
One of the questions that came up in the wake of my article comparing 50mm f/1.8 to 50mm f/1.4 lenses was: How do Zoom lenses at 50mm settings and equivalent apertures compare? Fortunately, the answers can be found on DxOMark’s extensive web site... Read the article.
Today DxO Labs has released DxOMark scores for Sony’s DSLR using that same sensor, the Sony A580, and no surprise, it too turns in the same high marks that the Pentax K-5 and Nikon D7000 did when they were recently tested... Read the article.
What we are posting now will definitely start a BIG discussion! Than according to DxOMark lab results the Sony A580 easily outperforms the translucent A55 brother... Read the article.
Panasonic Lumix LX5 digital camera review, a conveniently compact digital camera that is one of the best in its class according to DxOMark tests... Read the article.
Test results are a new feature to this article, and are based on objective measurements provided by DxOMark's state-of-the art camera test facility, with their permission. Each camera's sensor is measured for color depth (which indicates how smooth the transitions are between colors), dynamic range (the range of visible detail in shadows through bright highlights in the same scene), and low-light ISO. Low-light ISO determines which is the highest ISO that will produce acceptable levels of digital noise in an image. I present the data along with an explanation which is intended to help you understand each camera's performance. Note that we do not yet have results for all cameras listed here but as new cameras are tested we will add that information... Read the article.
DxOMark has release new scores for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5, and drumroll please...it’s just a wee bit better than its predecessor, the LX3... Read the article.
So it’s nice to see that the LX5 stats are improved over the LX3s in every way. And the fact that the Canons’ sensors still outperform the LX5 pretty much across the board - though, not by a huge margin - doesn’t surprise me much. I’m sometimes finding the details in the LX5 to be more crunchy. But none of these cameras’ images can be made into large fine-art prints anyway. These are fun, take-it-with-you cameras that can’t take the place of a DSLR... Read the article.
The K-5 is the most technically advanced Pentax DSLR ever, but does it deliver high-end quality and performance? We test it in the field, and in the lab... Read the article.
"[…] according to sensor tests performed by DxOMark, some of the least expensive DSLRs on the market today are producing some of the best high ISO low light photos. Add a relatively inexpensive, fast prime lens like a 50mm f/1.4 and...wow!"
"The detailed DXO Mark results help photographers find the sweet spot or best operating range for aperture, focal length and ISO of their existing lenses and cameras."
Mark Dubovoy further analyzes the f-stop measurements available on DxOMark for a broad range of cameras.
"DxO is specifically interested in measuring data about cameras and lenses at the RAW level. [...] The DxO Mark site is the premier site to find this kind of photographic information."
In this article, Imaging Resource uses DxOMark's data to compare and comment the Pentax 645D sensor and Sigma lenses in a Canon-mount form (17-50 and 50-200 OS).
"When purchasing a camera, people focus too much on the megapixel, the DxOMark complements that number with its own. The combination gives you an idea of what sort of sensor is in the camera you are purchasing."
"As usual with Dxomark, you can compare the RAW sensor data of various cameras that exist in their database. You can spend days doing this if you like :) "
"DxOMark benchmark mosts cameras that shoot RAW which covers basically all DSLRs and a few high-end digicams. The overall score is an equally weighted blend of three other benchmarks: color depth, dynamic range and image quality at high iso."
Lab tests by DxOMark suggest that spending the upgrade money on a premium lens can produce a significant gain in image quality.
"DxOMark [...] is not really a classic review site: there is no real hand-written text explaining what is good or bad and when/why you should care. DxO tries to fulfill the need for simple answers by using clear color schemes (green is good) and generating a handful of simple ratings so that you can see “who wins” and by how much."
"DxO's understanding of digital imaging and optics, plus how to measure their performance, is to a very high standard. "
"[…] the upgraded DxOMark should be a very handy tool for anyone interested in DSLR camera and lens technical performance."
