Nikon’s flagship medium range telephoto lens the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II offers a versatile focal range, great features and top-class optical quality. Costing $2,400 it’s an expensive option however, and notably with cheaper alternatives like the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX DGH APO HSM II and Nikon’s latest f/4 version, the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/4G ED VR now on the market, is this top-of-the-range lens worth the extra money? |

The zoom range 70-200, or thereabout, is one of the real classic lenses, an absolute “must” for sports and photojournalism. The faster the maximum aperture the better, but most important of all it must be a good performer. Tamron’s SP 70-200mm f2.8 Di VC USD has the right specifications and a price tag that is very attractive, especially when you see how good it is. |

70 to 200 f/2.8 VRII on D800E
Ordered the 70 to 200 f/2.8 VRII for my D800E from Amazon., it should be in hand Tuesday (May 7, 2013). I decided to pass on the f/4 version reasoning that I would regret not having the low light capability and the pain of the higher price for the f/2.8 would subside in short order. This will also be a better compliment to my 24 to 70 f/2.8 which has been an absolutely astounding performer. Once I heal from buying this lens I may look at the 14 to 24 f/2.8 to complete the family.

Nikon 80-200 F2.8
First off great tests and an awesome resource!
Could you possibly look into putting the Nikon 80-200 F2.8 into the mix as well. It is still being sold new and it is a great alternative for some folks wanting a pro F2.8 lens at the fraction of the price. It should be interesting to see how it holds up?
