Re: Green flash your incorrect about the 10-18 E-mount
To me, my comments were not pointless but were based on the following: I have the 10-18 f4, and both the Nex 7 and the A7r. The 10-18 actually gives wider coverage on the A7r than on the Nex 7 because as you mention, the actual full image does cover the full frame sensor of the A7r but the Nex 7 crops the image.
As for comparable sharpness, I do not have this new lens, so to compare the two lenses, both were tested on the Nex 7, so I compared the sharpness scores of DXOMARK for both lenses on that camera. On the NEX 7 the sharpness score for the new FE 16-35 was seven, whereas the sharpness score for the 10-18 was nine. More, if you look at the DXO measurement graphs of sharpness on the Nex 7, the comparative difference is significantly visible, and the sharpness for the 16-35 is clearly disappointing.
The 16-35 delivers a sharpness score of 16 perceptual megapixels on the A7r which is much better than on the Nex 7 but still not even half of the megapixels the sensor is capable of.
I do think your actual comparison of the two Sony lenses on the A7r adds some useful information to the discussion because DXO did not measure the 10-18 on the A7r so I could only compare the two lenses directly on the Nex 7.
But a further comparison, my $800 Sigma dx f1.8 17-35 on a 24mp half frame Nikon D5300, delivers 18 perceptual megapixels...2 more mp than the 36mp full frame with this new lens. So I repeat my statement of disappointment.
