Contrast detection autofocus

With contrast detection AF, the camera’s AF motor adjusts the lens until the image in the viewfinder shows the highest contrast at edges. Its main advantage is accuracy; however, it takes longer than PDAF to work, which makes it less useful for capturing objects in motion.
